This was written by Paul Anka and first recorded by Buddy Holly just before he died in 1959. I arranged the cover of it in 2016 for guitar and voice for a high school reunion. I considered adding more instruments to this final recording, but it seemed to say everything I wanted with just the guitar accompaniment.
It Doesn’t Matter Anymore - lyrics
There you go and baby, here am I,
You left me here so I could sit and cry;
Golly gee what have you done to me?
I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
Do you remember baby, last September,
How you held me tight, each and every night?
Oops–i–daisy, how you drove me crazy,
Well I guess it doesn't matter anymore.
What’s the use in me a-crying?
I’ve done everything and now I’m
Sick of trying;
I've thrown away my nights and I
Wasted all my days over you…
You go your way and I'll go mine,
Now and forever 'til the end of time;
I'll find somebody new and babe then
We'll say we're through and
You won't matter anymore.
