I wrote this in 2010, originally to celebrate the Minnesota Twins. During the creation of this album, I expanded it to a full song and generalized the lyrics to reflect my love of baseball as a boy that continues on. I’m laughing at the end because it starts out as a sort of good-time-beers-with-your-buddies anthem, then somehow evolves into slick Los Vegas 5-part jazz harmonies.

Baseball - lyrics

So I’m mowin’ the lawn, got the ball game on,

It’s the bottom of the second and the boys are down,

I can feel in my bones they need another one cheering,

My buddies are there, I can buy the next round;

Gotta hit the field to help the team next frame,

The grass’ll survive, take me out to the game…

Chorus

You know I love me my boys,

They play the game like they oughta,

Summertime ball park fever and I caught it,

Gonna a win today, take me out to the game.

You know I love me my boys,

We got the power when we need it,

Speedy at the top, we got the team and I mean it,

Gonna win today, take me out to the game.

Playin’ catch with my dad and my little kid teammates,

First time at bat I was scared of the ball;

The first big hit, first slide into home plate,

First new glove, I remember it all, & now

Big time baseball’s calling my name,

My team is in town, take me out to the game…

Chorus

I got an itch to go down to the diamond,

Got an itch to go down and hit my blues away,

Gonna pitch in my dreams, on the diamond,

Gonna blow ‘em all away…

Chorus

Gonna go down to the ballpark,

All of my friends got a head start,

Hey now, what can I say?

Summertime fever found me today!

Gonna go down to the ballpark,

Summertime fun ’til the dark,

Gonna win Today!
