Stephen Solum creates music: over the wide spectrum from popular, to fine arts, to electronic and computer music. From start to finish:

He writes songs and lyrics, sings and plays instruments, composes concert music, and solo-pilots a complex studio environment of microphones, virtual instruments, synths, recording, editing, and mixing.

His latest project, No Doubt About It, is a collection of 14 songs divided into 2 parts:

No Doubt 1: Americana, Released April 9, 2021 for digital streaming and downloads.

No Doubt 2: The City, Released May 7, 2021, along with a CD combining both parts, available on Bandcamp.

 Stephen Solum (So'-lum) has been actively involved in music his entire life. He first sang in public at the age of 2, then at 6 came out of retirement to join the church banquet circuit in his hometown.

Continually on-stage through his early years, he joined the musician’s union at 15, beginning a career in 3 parts that continues to this day:

  1. Performing popular music—with nearly 1500 professional stage performances over 20 years, reflecting everything from early rock, the British Invasion, Motown and R & B, through jazz, country, and commercial club music,

2. Using new technologies as they have developed, including building and running a commercial recording studio and immersing himself in electronic and computer music, and

3. Following an academic path in Fine Arts music. Steve went back to school in 1986, teaching and learning at New York University and the University of Minnesota, and earning a Ph.D in music composition, focusing on synthesis and extended performance techniques.

He brought all of this knowledge, training and real-world experience to Minneapolis College (MCTC) where he founded and directed the Sound Arts Program for 17 years, and wrote a foundational textbook, The Craft of Controlling Sound.
